In 2012 AT&T announced the shut down of 2G service for alarm communicators using the GSM/GPRS network to happen by January 1, 2017. Many alarm communicator manufacturers have been hard at work releasing the new 3G & 4G communicators in preparation of the proposed sunset date. The Wal-Mart Foundation plans to save schools money and teach children about renewable energy. This morning, the philanthropic arm of the world’s largest retailer announced a donation of $1.2 million to the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project to help install solar power systems on 20 schools in five cities across the country.
